All Life pulsates with energy so that the health of the Human body can be addressed using Energy Medicine which in our context means the use of “laying-on-of-hands” types of modalities.

Provided below is a list of Energy Medicine therapies/modalities that use “chi”, “prana” ‘energy’ in their healing modalities. Some are strictly moving energy and others use a combination of bodywork and energy healing.

All living things are surrounded and permeated by vital energy that the ancients in different traditions called “life force”. Prana is the Sanskrit word for that life force that sustains us physically, emotionally and mentally. It is known by different names in many cultures. “Prana” is the energy that is moved in Yoga, the “mana” used by kahunas for healing, the “chi” that is manipulated in acupuncture and generated in tai chi, and it is the “ki” used to defend oneself in martial arts such as Aikido. It is the “Ruah” or “manna” mentioned in the bible and what the Greek philosophers called “pneuma”. ~ Pranic Healing. com

Practitioner Skill

Remember these are “Modalities” ~ a particular mode in which something exists or is experienced or expressed. None of these modalities work unless it is utilized by a human, and each human is unique. The Quality of any work is distilled down to the Individual Practitioner! It is not the modality but the practitioner that is helpful or not.

Many practitioners have studied more than one modality and then find differentiation during their work session with clients that build upon their knowledge base. Just because someone studied something, does not mean they are a good example of that work.

Becoming a true healer means so much more than learning a modality, as it takes times to develop through practice and through spiritual development of the practitioner.

At a party, I watched some drunk lady walking around putting her hands on people’s shoulders saying she is giving out free Reiki, which drunk like she was, there is no way that any healing is going to happen. Do research about your practitioners and get referrals. Training alone does not make one a practitioner.

We use the word healer as a placement of work, but it does not mean in any way, that the practitioner actually heals another. It cannot be true. Healing happens within a person, so a healer is like a assistant to the healing process within a person. Healer works with healee. It is the Higher Self of the healee that orchestrates what is needed and when.

Know that there are professional and qualified practitioners present all over the world who practice Energy Medicine with various outcomes. Serious practitioners have a deep sense of ethics and standards as well as an accomplished list of modalities.

Also, please do not assume that Energy Medicine is an instant cure, or perfect healing or one-shot treatment. Healing is a journey and complicated by the soul growth of each and every individual. It is about learning, growing and becoming.

Energy Medicine works on many levels, and yet when a person gets body sickness, there is also a need for medical attention through a Doctor or health practitioner who works directly with the body. More on that in another article.

Donna Eden’s Energy Medicine

Donna Eden combined the knowledge of many systems of Energy Medicine utilizing techniques from such as acupuncture, yoga, kinesiology, and qi gong. Flow, balance, and harmony can be  non-invasively restored and maintained within an energy system by tapping, massaging, pinching, twisting, or connecting specific energy points (acupoints) on the skin; by tracing or swirling the hand over the skin along specific energy pathways; through exercises or postures designed for specific energetic effects; by focused use of the mind to move specific energies; and/or by surrounding an area with healing energies. She has helped to bring so many self help techniques to the general public and teaches many practitioners to do these kinds of energy healing techniques.  https://edenenergymedicine.com/

Pranic Healing

Developed and taught by Master Choa Kok Sui, Pranic Healing is a therapy in which the practitioner uses prana (energy or life force) to balance the bodily functions and thereby improve health and many aspects of life including relationships, finances and self-actualization. https://pranichealing.com/

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique of energy medicine for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The uniqueness of Reiki is a person receives an “attunement”, a special initiation from the Spirit through a Reiki Master so that they can receive healing energy flow through them. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”.

Reiki is a form of energy healing that uses specific symbols to set up energy and hands are placed just off the body or lightly touching the body as the practitioner transmits Universal Life Energy to the client. Different methods and symbols have been developed and used for each type, but the principle behind them remains the same. Here are some of the more well-known styles:

  • Usui Reiki ~ The first form of Reiki that was rediscovered and brought to the modern world by Mikao Usui in 1922. Hawayo Takata, a student of Dr. Chujiro Hayashi (who studied with Usui) brought the Usui system of Reiki to the West.
  • Jikiden Reiki
  • Rainbow Reiki ~ established sometime in the late 80’s early 90’s by Walter Lübeck. It is based on Usui Reiki using techniques such as karma clearing, chakra work, assistance with the Higher Self and the Inner Child work.
  • The Radiance Technique®
  • Karuna Reiki ~ Karuna is a sanskrit word that is used in Buddhism and in Hinduism. It means “Compassion” or “The Universal Compassion of a Bodhisattva”. This system of healing was developed by William Lee Rand who is the founder and President of The International Center for Reiki Training.
  • Lightarian Reiki
  • Raku Kei
  • Men Chho Reiki®
  • Tibetan Reiki
  • Kundalini Reiki ~ Developed Ole Gabrielsen, this method of Reiki focuses on raising the healing energy through the root (1st) chakra, rather than through the crown chakra. Raising Kundalini is practiced through Yoga and when activated can clear blockages within the chakras
  • Golden Age Reiki
  • Sekehem or Seichim Reiki
  • Mari el®
  • Satya Japanese Reiki
  • Usui Reiki Ryoho
  • Reiki Jin-Kei Do®
  • Jinlap Reiki
  • Saku Reiki
  • Blue Star Reiki
  • Reiki Plus®

Four qualities of Reiki are:

  1. The ability to do Reiki comes from receiving an attunement, rather than developing the ability over time though the use of meditation or other exercises.
  2. All Reiki techniques are part of a lineage. This means that the technique has been passed on from teacher to student through an attunement process starting with the one who first channeled the technique.
  3. Reiki does not require that one guide the energy with the mind, as it is guided by the higher power and knows where to go and how to act all on its own.
  4. Because of this, Reiki can do no harm.

If a healing technique has these four qualities, then it can be a Reiki technique. https://www.reiki.org/

Polarity Therapy

Polarity Therapy was developed by Dr. Randolph Stone, doctor of Osteopathy, Naturopathy and Chiropractic, over a period of 60 years of practice and study. It represents a synthesis of the health wisdom from the West and the East.

Polarity Therapy is based upon the energetic principles of attraction, repulsion and neutrality. Like many types of energy work, Polarity Therapy seeks to find blockages, release energy to normal flow patterns and maintain the bio-energetic field in an open, flexible state. PT can involve diet, exercise and self-awareness as well as energy-based bodywork that works with three main currents of energy. https://polaritytherapy.org/

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most used to treat pain and it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force, called ‘chi’ or ‘qi’ (chee). Life force is believed to flow through pathways called meridians throughout your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance.

Acupressure & Shiatsu

Acupressure is based on the same principles as acupuncture to promote relaxation and wellness and to treat disease and has been used for thousands of years in China. Shiatsu is a Japanese form of acupressure also an ancient healing art.

Traditional Chinese medical theory describes meridians as invisible channels throughout your body that carry energy called ‘qi’. When one of these meridians is blocked or out of balance, you get sick. Acupressure uses specific points along these meridians to help restore balance with the use of pressure applied by fingers.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a therapy involving the application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques.

It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, which connect directly through the nervous system and affect the bodily organs and glands.

The benefits of reflexology include its ability to clear energy blocks along the meridians, stimulate nerve function, increase energy, boost circulation, induce a deep state of relaxation and eliminate toxins from the body. It helps stimulate the central nervous system, prevent migraines and treat urinary tract conditions. In addition, reflexology speeds up recovery after an injury or surgery, reduces sleep disorders, and relieves depression and pain.

Touch for Health® Kinesiology

Touch for Health® Kinesiology was founded in 1973 by John F. Thie, D.C., and is a system of balancing posture, emotions and energy for greater comfort, vitality and enjoyment of your life. Touch for Health is the most widely used system of kinesiology in the world.

Touch for Health falls under the branch of complementary therapy known as kinesiology – systems of healing that use manual muscle bio-feedback to determine which stimuli stress the body and how that stress can be decreased. It is recognized and respected as a fundamental training for other kinesiology systems as well as a healing modality in its own right. https://www.touchforhealth.us/

EFT ~ Emotional Freedom Techniques®

EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques®, is one of the easily learned, meridian-based types of energy healing. It combines needle-free acupuncture with mind-body medicine. It is all about fingers-tapping on the acupuncture meridians in the body combined with positive affirmations.

Emotional Freedom Techniques is a form of counseling intervention that draws on various theories of alternative medicine including acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming, energy medicine, and Thought Field Therapy.

Quantum Touch®

Founded by Richard Gordon, Quantum Touch is based on the principle of resonance and entrainment of energy vibration through breathing.. The energy level is amplified through proper breathing and visualization of energy flow in the body. The distinctiveness of Quantum Touch is that there is no energy transfer from an external divine source. It is a method that may remove blocks and stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. https://www.quantumtouch.com/en/

Shamanic Healing

Shaman healing is practiced in many areas as a way to source information about one’s healing journey with the use of specific drumming in order to reach an altered state of consciousness where we can find answers. In active shaman healing, where the shaman is the healer, the shaman journies for the healee in order to find the answers and remedies. Many shaman work with the elementals and spirits in energy medicine sessions. Shaman will ‘summon’ these spirits to repair a soul, who may then experience real, physical healing in the earth realm. Historically, it is often associated with indigenous and tribal societies, and involves belief that shamans, with a connection to the otherworld, have the power to heal the sick, communicate with spirits, and escort souls of the dead to the afterlife.

Shamanic healers conduct energy from the spiritual realm, calling upon spiritual helpers such as power animals or other spiritual forces. Shamanic work is used to treat a range of emotional and physical illnesses.  https://www.shamanism.com/shamanic-healing   https://thefourwinds.com/overview/  https://shamanism.org/index.php

ThetaHealing™

The ThetaHealing technique is a meditation technique and spiritual philosophy with the purpose of getting closer to the Creator. As described by practitioner Donald Simon, the practitioner goes into a theta brain wave state (deep meditative), asks for assistance from God (or Source) and then witnesses the healing. Ortho-bionomy

Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle, non-invasive, osteopathically-based form of body therapy which is highly effective in working with chronic stress, injuries and pains or problems associated with postural and structural imbalances. The practitioner uses gentle movements and positions of the body to facilitate the change of stress and pain patterns. It is also used as energy medicine with the intent and communication through energy to assist the body in realignments.

The term “Ortho-Bionomy” comes from “ortho” meaning correct or straight, “bio” meaning life, and “nomy” meaning the laws of or study of. Dr. Pauls defined the term then as “the correct application of the laws of life.” He stated “[Ortho-Bionomy] is really about understanding your whole life cycle. https://www.ortho-bionomy.org/

Sound Healing, Toning, Music Therapy

The basic principle of sound healing is the concept of resonance, the vibratory frequency of an object. The entire Universe is in a state of vibration. This includes human beings. Every organ, cell, bone, tissue and liquid of the body, and the electromagnetic fields which surround the body, has a healthy vibratory frequency.

If we are not resonating with some part of ourselves or our surroundings, we become dissonant and therefore unhealthy, our naturally healthy frequency becomes a frequency that vibrates without harmony, creating illness. Sound is measured in terms of Frequency or Hertz (Hz)

Sound Healing is the application of sound frequencies to the physical and subtle energy fields of the body. Therapeutic frequencies and sounds are delivered via, live sound therapy sessions, the Voice, vocal Overtone Singing and a variety of sound healing tools such as Tuning forks, Tibetan singing bowls, quartz crystal bowls, monochords, musical instruments, as well as those from more Shamanic Sound Healing traditions, such as digeridoo, Native drum, Native flute, rattles and so on.

Music Therapy is the use of music through musical instruments to bring forth harmonics which assist the body to relax, repair and heal.
